June Maintenance Home Checklist

June Maintenance Home Checklist

Posted: June 03 2022

Turn on the AC — summer is here! Although you’ve recently done your spring cleaning (or maybe you haven’t, we’re not here to judge), there are still important maintenance checks you want to consider for the months of warm weather. Provided by our friends at Alberta New Home Warranty, here’s a list to help you prepare your home for the summer:
Fertilize Your Lawn
Who said the grass can be green on both sides? Fertilizing for weed control protects your lawn. Reach out to your local garden centre to find the best fertilizer and application techniques.
Clean Intake Vent Screens
Let the air flow! Keep your exterior intake vents clear from any obstructions to keep your vents functioning.
Check for Soil Settlement at the Foundation
Summer means rain, and it’s your responsibility to make sure the water runs away from the house! Inspect the foundation and fill any areas that have settled to ensure your drainage systems remain effective.
Seal All Granite Countertops
Did you know granite is quite porous? While you don’t have to be too concerned about chips and scratches, you want to treat granite every six months with a sealer to prevent staining.
Inspect Air Conditioning System
On those +35° days, the last thing your house needs is a problem with the AC unit. Be proactive by looking for dirt or debris, which limits the efficiency of your cooling system. Refer to your manual for cleaning instructions.
Test Carbon Monoxide and Smoke Detector Batteries
Be proactive and stay on top of your detector batteries! Read the owner’s manual for both detectors. Experts recommend having both battery-powered and wired-in models for your and your family’s safety.

Change Range Hood Filters
After all that warm winter cooking, it’s time to clean out your kitchen range hood! It’s an important part of your home’s ventilation system, removing odours and improving air quality. Check the manufacturer’s recommendations before cleaning and replacing filters.
After you’ve completed your checklist, it’s time to relax and enjoy the well-deserved time in the sunshine!
